W2W: A python tool that ingests WUDAPT information into WRF

We have developed a tool to incorporate WUDAPT Local Climate Zones into WRF. Using files from WRF with static fields (geo_em.d0X.nc) and a Local Climate Zone map of the region (ways of obtaining this are also detailed), this package creates new files that describe the heterogeneity of urban landscapes with different categories (LCZ) and ready to be used in WRF with urban canopy models. It also generates files where urban areas are completely replaced with surrounding rural areas to conduct experiments with no cities. The code is self contained and easily installable through pip. WRFV3.8 Modified for wind energy applications

Modifications of the WRFV3.8 code to write out variables that are relevant for wind energy applications, as well as statistics at different levels above the ground that correspond to typical turbine hub heights. These modifications were used in our paper (Argüeso and Businger, 2018), where we examined the wind power generation potential of O’ahu (Hawai’i). See repository for more info.

Calculation of heatwave characteristics using Excess Heat Factor

Based on work by Nairn and Fawcett (2013) and Perkins and Alexander (2013) who respectively defined and modified the Excess Heat Factor, I developed this python code to calculate heatwave characteristics using both maximum and minimum temperature from either models and observations.
